EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | WINGS OF HOPE CANCER SUPPORT CENTER

Wings of Hope Cancer Support Center is a 501c3 agency incorporated in 1994. The nonprofit agency has grown and developed programming in response to the needs of cancer patients, survivors and care partners in the Council Bluffs-Omaha metro and rural communities in southwest Iowa. Funding sources to support this much-needed programming have diversified over the years, allowing all services to be offered free of charge to those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Position Description

The Executive Director coordinates all agency operations with the primary focus on creating conditions for financial success. Internally, the director will collaborate with the Board of Directors to accomplish strategic planning and implement plans in the areas of development, financial accountability and public relations. The position supervises programming and administrative staff, and reports to the Board of Directors. Externally, the director will develop and maintain strong relationships outside of the agency with community and health systems, donors, media, etc.

Job Responsibilities

FINANCES AND DEVELOPMENT (50% of role)

  • Responsible for fundraising and creating the conditions for financial success. This includes soliciting major gifts and working alongside the board and staff to develop actionable fundraising plans.

  • Demonstrate an ability to read and understand financial documents. Responsible for financial records of the organization. Coordinates and leads annual budget reviews, monthly and quarterly reviews.

  • Ensure that services and funding relationships are robust enough to meet or exceed strategic goals and objectives.

  • Oversee and prepare accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate the organization’s results (including both fundraising and program reports) for board of directors.

PROVIDE ADMINISTRATION AND LEADERSHIP (30% of role)

  • Clearly articulates the vision, mission, theory of change and strategic direction of the organization.

  • Serve as the public face of the organization, maintaining strong relationships with peers, key stakeholders, community leaders, donors and the media.

  • Maintain partnership relationships with southwest Iowa community health systems.

  • Provide the board with the resources it needs to initiate strategic change and promote agency growth. Assist board in selecting new members and act as a liaison between the board and staff.

PROGRAMMING (20% of role)

  • Responsible for planning, organization and direction of the organization’s operations and programs by working in close partnership with program staff.

  • Provide leadership to and supervise the efforts of program, development and administrative staff to ensure appropriate support of all departments. Responsible for employee performance reviews.

  • Retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and volunteers by providing continuing education opportunities and personal development for workers.

Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements

  • Master’s Degree preferred in nonprofit management or business administration

  • 10 or more years of non-profit management experience, including 5 years of supervisory experience
