Wings of Hope Board of Directors and Staff Members

The Wings of Hope Board of Directors work in good faith with staff and other Board members as partners to establish a strategic plan for the agency and to achieve its goals. Board members also act as advocates and ambassadors for Wings of Hope in the community.

Patti Higginbotham
Patti Higginbotham is the founder of Wings of Hope Cancer Support Center. As an oncology nurse in the early 1990's, she saw a need for local support for those diagnosed with cancer. She has worked in the oncology field for years, and is now a Nurse Practitioner for Omaha Surgical Consultants in Omaha.
Ann Jones
Vice President
Ann Jones is an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN) and president/CEO of Health Forward, LLC. Ann has over 25 years of experience in the heatlhcare industry, including oncology service line management and chief nursing executive. Her professional passion includes designing programs that promote wellness and improve the survivorship experience for cancer patients and their families.
Pat Andersen
Pat Andersen is a certified public accountant and a Shareholder of McDermott & Miller, P.C. She is licensed to practice as a CPA in Iowa and Nebraska. Pat first became acquainted with Wings of Hope in 2007, shortly after being diagnosed with breast cancer and has been a Board member since 2008. During her cancer journey, she participated in counseling, support group meetings, exercise and nutritional programs, and the Time to Heal program through Wings of Hope. "I truly appreciate the extraordinary care and compassion I received from Wings of Hope and am honored to be a part of such an amazing organization."
Carolyn Ettinger
Program Administrator; Board Secretary
Carolyn has been employed at Wings of Hope since August of 2002. She has her Master's degree in Counseling, is a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner, and recently became a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner. She believes strongly in the importance of support during the difficulties of coping with a cancer diagnosis. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994 and has benefited from many different types of support over the years. She is committed to the Wings of Hope mission.
Brenda Krivanek
Administrative Assistant
Brenda Krivanek is our new Administrative Assistant at Wings of Hope. Brenda has lived in Council Bluffs her entire life. She has 3 daughters, 3 granddaughters, and is married to a wonderful man. Brenda retired from the City of Council Bluffs and is now enjoying her part time job at Wings of Hope
Rose Brown
Rose Brown is the Planning Coordinator in the Community Development Department for the City of Council Bluffs. She is the Treasurer for the Iowa Chapter of the American Planning Association and is an Assistant Commissioner for the West Pottawattamie Soil and Water Conservation District.
Francis Clark
Francis E. Clark is a certified public accountant, shareholder and treasurer/secretary of Dickinson & Clark CPAs, P.C. He is a licensed CPA in Iowa and Nebraska, a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Iowa Society of CPAs. He is past president of the Southwest Iowa Chapter of the Iowa Society of CPAs. He has 40 years of experience in public accounting.
Brian Cooley
Brian Cooley is the Nursing Operations Director for the Medical Surgical wing at Alegent Creighton Health - Mercy Hospital. He has worked in the nursing field since 1985 - in pediatrics, oncology, med-surg, and orthopedics. He has his Masters degree in nursing, and currently serves on the Iowa Nurses Association Board of Directors (Secretary) and the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses. Brian loves gardening, yard work, and travel.
Rosemary Dermody
Rosemary Dermody joined The Wings of Hope Board in 2011. She moved back to Council Bluffs after living in St.louis,Mo area where she was an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life. For the past 6 years she worked with children with special needs at United Services Preschool. "I am just so happy to be here and to be able to help others with this difficult time in their lives.Cancer became a part of my life when I was diagnosed with breast cancer on Halloween,1996. My little sister died of cancer in 2004 and my mother was diagnosed in 2006.I think every cancer survivor wants to "give back" in some way. I just appreciate this opportunity to help others in my community and volunteering is a way to make a difference. "
Donna Hubbell
Donna Hubbell is a Registered Nurse, and the Vice President of patient safety and quality at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Michelle Kaufman
is Director of Oncology Services at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital. As a Radiation Therapist, Michelle has worked with Wings of Hope Cancer Support Center for many years, helping patients navigate through the oncology system from diagnosis to survivorship. Michelle is honored to be a member of such a dynamic group of individuals working toward the same goals of providing the best care possible to our oncology patients.
Deb Kennebeck
Deb is a Vice-President of Mortgage Lending for Council Bluffs Savings Bank. She has 27 years of lending and banking experience. As a breast cancer survivor, Deb understands the need for support and information for cancer patient and their families. The Wings of Hope staff goes beyond just a need, as they offer assistance with compassion from people who truly care.

Jenny Van Soelen
Jenny Van Soelen is a Marketing Coordinator for Mutual of Omaha. She is a lifelong resident of Council Bluffs and joined the Wings of Hope board to get more involved in her community and to use her professional skills to help Wings of Hope help others. Jenny's family was directly impacted by the services of Wings of Hope when her mother was diagnosed with and died of cancer three years ago. That experience has strengthened her commitment to this organization and to those families struggling with cancer.
Brett Ryan
Ad Hoc Member and Legal Counsel
Brett is a principal attorney at Watson and Ryan PLC, a law firm in Council Bluffs, and has been a practicing attorney in the area since 1999. He is licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of Iowa and Nebraska. Brett has served on the Wings of Hope Board since 2007 and is also involved in the Metro Housing Authority board, as well as the Iowa Western Black Tie Fundraiser Board. Brett is proud to be part of the Wings of Hope organization, as it helps people locally in ways that other charities and organizations do not.
Ken Petersen
In Memory
Ken Petersen served as an active member of the Wings of Hope Board of Directors for many years, including in positions such as financial officer and vice president. Ken had the unique ability to make connections in our community to ensure that cancer patients in the Council Bluffs area received the best support possible. We feel deeply the loss of Ken, but continue to hold him as a standard for Board membership.
