Wings to Celebrate 30 Years of Hope at Winter Gala Feb. 10
COUNCIL BLUFFS - Wings of Hope Cancer Support Center will kick off its 30th anniversary of service to the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro and southwest Iowa Saturday, Feb. 10, at its 2024 Winter Gala.
The event will begin at 6:30pm at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, and the evening will focus on celebrating the three-decade milestone and those who helped make it possible. Proceeds will benefit the organization’s 2024 operating budget. Tickets, which include heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks, are $100 per person and can be purchased online at www.wingsofhope.org/gala or by calling 712.325.8970.
“We’re proud of our past and excited about our future,” said Wings of Hope Executive Director Carolyn Ettinger. “The need for what we do has never been greater, and events like this allow us to continue providing our services at no charge for people on the cancer journey.”
Glenn Miller’s “A String of Pearls” will set the tone for the evening to mark the 30th anniversary theme (the pearl is the gem associated with the 30th anniversary). Attendees are encouraged to dress in solid red and wear pearls, and an award will be presented to the person displaying the best interpretation of the theme.
Deaf Audio DJ will be spinning big band and swing tunes, and the Omaha Jitterbugs will be on hand to give dance lessons and oversee the first ever Wings of Hope swing dance contest. Omaha artist Barbara Schmid-Egr is preparing a 30th anniversary art canvas, and attendees will be invited to add messages to it.
The gala also will include silent, super silent and program auctions and the awarding of the 2024 Larry Hill Memorial Award, which honors those who share their gifts and talents to benefit cancer patients and their families in the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro and throughout southwest Iowa.
The 2024 Winter Gala is made possible in part by Wings of Hope strategic partners Hematology & Oncology Consultants, P.C. and Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, and gala sponsors Google, HyVee, Iowa Western Community College, Echo Group Inc., Frontier Savings Bank, Security National Bank, Dallas Johnson Greenhouse, Detail Titan, HKG Insurance Solutions, HomeCare Advocacy Network, Ming Toy Gallery, Schroer & Associates, Suden Enterprises, TS Prosperity Group and Veridian Credit Union.
